These maps use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to display rates of occurrence for different levels of child welfare system contact—allegations, substantiations, entries, and in care counts by county and race/ethnicity.

Important note: Allegation and Entry Rate maps utilize population data from a different source than the Substantiation and In Care Rate maps and other reports on this site. Therefore these rates will not match those found in elsewhere on the site.

Methodology

These reports examine child maltreatment allegation and foster care entry rates at the zip code and census tract level.
Please note that there are slight discrepancies for a few time periods between frequencies in these reports and those in allegation and entries reports found elsewhere on this site. We are currently investigating the source of these differences.
