Removal Reason: The reason for a child’s removal from the home is coded into the following categories. The CWS/CMS codes for each category are drawn from the variable rmv_rsnc:

  1. Neglect
    • Caretaker Absence/Incapacity (1609)
    • General Neglect (1615)
    • Severe Neglect (1619)
  2. Physical (1617)
  3. Sexual (1620)
  4. Other
    • All other codes (e.g., exploitation, child’s disability or handicap, etc.)
  5. Missing
Children for whom the removal reason is coded as “Conversion” (1611) or is not coded are categorized as Missing and excluded from the percent calculations.

When removal reason is not selected as a dimension, the default filter includes Missing values and all reasons listed above. Users can also filter reports to include only children removed for a specific reason (e.g., only children removed for Sexual abuse or Other) by checking those reasons for which report data are to be included.
